Wild Ponies

In the mountains above the Old Sheep Farm, some wonderful, unique beasts roam wild. They are the Carneddau Ponies - thought to have grazed the hills since the Bronze age. It is always magical to catch a glimpse of these beautiful animals and we feel very privileged to have them living so close to us!

Rich took a walk from the house one stormy May day and took some photos to share. Here you can see the variety of colours and markings that naturally arise in this breed:

The mothers in the herd had not long had their foals. Here is one gazing at a rainbow that had appeared over Garreg Fawr. I wonder if its the first he had seen?

The presence of the ponies above the Old Sheep Farm reminds us how ancient this landscape is, and how wild. We are incredibly lucky to be able to borrow a small part of it for a time, and hopefully share it with others!
