The road to the Old Sheep Farm

We have a 200m road up to the Old Sheep Farm, that we are in charge of maintaining. When we moved in, it was a patchwork of concrete and tarmac and gravel, where pothole upon pothole had been filled and mended over the years. It hadn't had a proper resurface since the 70's, we think, and the Snowdonia winters had certainly taken their toll!

Over the last year, a few pretty impressive storms washed pretty much half the road away, and we couldn't put off fixing it properly any longer. It was rather like driving up a river bed, by the end, and I am sure the suspension on our car was not benefiting! We also needed to get nice smooth access ready for opening our holiday cottages in the not-to-distant future.

So finally, we got it resurfaced. Willow was not sure about the diggers and rollers at first...

but got very excited about our new smooth road!

The chickens were the first to test the new road, and they approved:

The road people did an amazing job, not least because Storm Francis rocked up whilst they were laying it - here is a glimpse of the track near our house where we normally walk the dog...the rain was fairly dramatic!

Here is a before and after - a bit of a difference:
