The rain came!

After three months of drought, finally the rain came, and it came with a vengeance. The plants are almost audibly creaking with delight. Our vegetables have suddenly burst into life, with the courgette seedlings finally growing new leaves, the beans shooting up their poles and the rhubarb growing tiny new shoots to replace the old, floppy drought-starved stalks.

An abandoned hosepipe lying on the patio - not needed for a while, at least:

Willow is excited about puddle-splashing activities recommencing!

And the best thing is, we have gained an hour each evening that was spent standing with the hose watering everything to try to keep the plants alive. Although, it was quite meditative watching the swallows slowly being replaced by the bats swooping above us, with the moon coming up from behind the mountains.
