We are enjoying learning a little bit about sheep farming as the year goes by. A few weeks ago, it was haircut time for the sheep! It was delayed a little this year because of the rain - you can't shear soggy sheep, and they have been excessively soggy these past few days. But when shearing day arrived, it was bright, sunny and breezy, and they seemed to be drying off nicely.
The 'small gang' of sheep were herded into the field next to our house the day before, ready for shearing. The big group up in the mountains would be moved next. Willow enjoyed the spectacle and watching the sheep dogs at work.
It was also a good opportunity for some controlled sheep-exposure training for the Pig...
Rich rustled up some bacon sandwiches for the shearers - they were working at an incredible pace and probably needed all the energy they could get!
Now, the fields are full of very naked-looking sheep. The lambs now look bigger than their mums, because they still have their fluffy fleeces on!
