New Year, New Projects

Well, we had a busy 2022-2023! We opened the Old Sheep Farm in August 2022, just after our second daughter was born, initially with just the Hayloft, our beautiful one-bedroom cottage nestled next to the orchard. At Christmas, we then opened its sister cottage, the Woolstore, a larger two-bedroom cottage perfect for families or a group of friends.

We have now had more than 100 sets of guests staying with us at the Old Sheep Farm to enjoy all that Snowdonia and the North Wales coast has to offer, from a cosy luxurious cottage as their base. And we are very proud to see the five-star reviews rolling in!

The Old Sheep Farm closes in January and February every year for general maintenance and improvements, ready to open on 1st of March (also Dydd Gwyl Dewi, St. David's Day!). And this year, we have appreciated the break, as we added a new member to our young family - a baby boy arrived in the middle of January to join his big sisters.

Meanwhile, we are getting excited planning new things for the coming year. We are currently renovating the Bird Garden, a beautiful garden situated at the front of the main farmhouse. It contains a pond teeming with frogs, newts and dragon flies, colourful flowers and shrubs, a weeping willow, a newly planted Spring bulb garden, and plenty of places to sit and enjoy a warm summer's day.

Some late-summer blooms in the Bird Garden:

It also, as the name suggests, is home to a wide range of birds visiting the garden - including nuthatches, blue tits, great tits, robins, willow warblers, redstarts, song thrushes, gold finches, and the odd heron and mallard!

Some of our feathery visitors:

The Bird Garden is getting a new paved path winding through the flower beds, leading to the pond and seating area in one direction, and across a raised walkway above the springs and bog garden in the other direction. A beautiful gazebo, serving both as a bird hide and afternoon tea spot, will be installed to give a place to enjoy the sunshine in a peaceful natural setting. And of course, new bird feeders and a bird bath will be dotted around the garden to further encourage our feathery visitors.

Birds aren't the only fluttery residents of the Bird Garden...

Another project, available from the summer, will be the option to book an afternoon tea, served fresh to your cottage, to the picnic tables in the paddock, or to the gazebo in the bird garden. The menu has yet to be decided, but will contain home-baked delights fresh from our Aga and will be a luxurious treat to add to your stay. Of course, scones with jam and clotted cream are obligatory! Details of how to book this will be provided in due course...

We may have a few other plans up our sleeve - to be confirmed!
